Governor Kivutha Kibwana set to testify in Makueni row

The commission probing a petition to dissolve the Makueni County government resumes its sittings this morning with County Assembly Speaker Stephen Ngelu expected to wind up his testimony.

The Speaker took to the witness stand last Thursday and part of Friday before the commission adjourned.

He was being cross-examined by lawyers Kyalo Mbovu for the petitioners and Wilfred Nyamu for the county executive.

Governor Kivutha Kibwana will be the next witness as proceedings enter the fifth week.

Commission chairman Mohamed Nyaoga has in the past expressed concern over the time lawyers for the different parties are taking to cross-examine witnesses.

It was expected that by this week, the commission would have wound up its sittings in Wote town and moved to the sub-counties to get local residents' views.

To make up for lost time, Mr Nyaoga on Friday announced the possibility of the commission sitting from 8.30am to 9pm.

Many are eager to hear what Prof Kibwana, who has been at loggerheads with county assembly members, will prescribe as a solution for the county's political troubles.
