Kisumu City Marathon for Sunday

The lakeside city will this weekend host the eighth edition of Kisumu City Marathon with hundreds of athletes expected to participate.
Uganda's Richard Sekito and Noah Owuor are among the over 600 athletes expected to take part in the last race, which is part of the Safaricom Athletics Series.
Last year's winners in the male and female categories Boaz Kiprono and Nancy Joan Rotich will put their titles on the line against a spirited field. Registration will close on Saturday at 12pm.
"Final preparations for the marathon are in full gear and all measures have been put in place to ensure the event runs smoothly. We have gotten interest from Ugandan athletes and hope the other Eastern African countries will confirm by the end of the week," said Athletics Kenya Nyanza North region Chairman Joseph Ochieng'.
Winners in the male and female categories will walk away with Sh200,000 each. First runners-up will will have Sh100,000 each while the second runners-up will get Sh50,000.
There will be 42km for men and women, 1km, 8km for veterans and youth. The race will be flagged off by Kisumu County Governor Jack Ranguma.
Besides Kisumu City Marathon, Safaricom also sponsors Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Memorial race in Bondo, Kisii Half Marathon, Kebirigo Road race and the 1st Deaf Marathon which are all in the wider Nyanza region.
