CID Director Ndegwa Muhoro: Government to crack down local drug barons

KENYA: Local drug barons are next on line after the Government finishes dealing with foreign traffickers.

“No stone will be left unturned as we stem out drug trafficking in Kenya. We won’t spare any culprit found culpable of these crimes,” Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Director Ndegwa Muhoro warned.

He said the CID was following President Uhuru Kenyatta’s directive on flushing out drug barons.

He said police were still searching for a suspected drug dealer who was deported along with Anthony Chinedu to Nigeria.

Chimenze is suspected to have sneaked back into the country on Wednesday through the Namanga border.

Muhoro confirmed that they have extended a manhunt for Chimenze to other parts of the country.

Chimenze got his way through the Kenya/Tanzania border after allegedly colluding with an immigration officer to enter the country illegally.

Muhoro said drug trafficking was becoming a major issue in the country with many youths’ lives being destroyed, adding that it was the police’s duty to ensure all those involved are arrested and charged as per the law.

He said they have been taking drug traffickers to court and many are set to follow suit.

On Friday, the court denied Mr Edward Kabiu Njau bail and ordered him to stay in police custody, pending completion of investigations.

The CID Boss warned that any other immigration official that will be involved in letting criminals inside the country, will be arrested and charged in court.

Muhoro said it was hard for any person to enter Kenya without being noticed, since there are devices used in detect fingerprints and a person’s eyes.

“There is no way Chinedu can come back here unnoticed,” he said.

Speaking during the burial of the mother to Mombasa County CID commandant Henry Ondiek at Muhoroni, Muhoro assured residents that he will work together with the area’s county government to stop border wrangles.

He also said that the government is working hard in protecting the youth from being recruited into Al Shabaab, Mungiki and Mombasa Republican Council.
