IEBC asks court to dismiss MRC case

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission wants a constitutional court to strike out an application by Mombasa Republican Council (MRC) seeking to stop the General Election in Coast region.

The commission’s lawyer, Sanjiv Kagram said the application should be struck out because the group is an illegal entity.

“The applicants cannot be officials of a body, which does not exist in the Registrar of Societies,” said Kangram

The MRC General Secretary, Mr Hamza Randu and Mohamed Rashid Mraja who have sued the commission want the court to stop the elections because the region is not part of Kenya.

Randu and Mraja who have been attending the hearing were absent. Kagram said the group is amorphous with ill intention of separating from the country against the wishes of other Kenyans.

The judges hearing the application are John Mwera, Grace Nzioka, Richard Mwongo, Edward Mureithi and Francis Tuiyot.
