Christians told to help the poor during Lent season

NYERI: Christians across Kenya have been called to be humble and mindful of the less fortunate as they mark Lent.

In his sermon on Wednesday, Nyeri Catholic Archbishop Peter Kairu challenged the congregation to play an active role in ending the suffering of disadvantaged citizens.

He was speaking during Ash Wednesday mass at Consolata Cathedral in Nyeri town.

Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of the Church's Lent season, popularly known as the Lenten Campaign period.

Kairu reminded worshippers to pray all the time and remain selfless just as Jesus Christ did while He lived on earth.

"Everyone should do away with earthly pleasures and focus more on enhancing their relationship with God," said the cleric.
