Fishing in Lake Naivasha was yesterday temporarily stopped after a 13-year-old boy drowned near Karagita landing beach.

He was in a fishing group when he slipped and fell into the lake. In the past few months, the number of children involved in bait-fishing at the lake has raised concern. Lake Naivasha Boat Owners Association chairman David Kilo said bait-fishing, though lucrative, is illegal.

He urged the government to intervene to prevent more deaths. “Many children are dropping out of school to take up illegal fishing,” he said.
