The Orange Democratic Movement Party has moved to discipline its Secretary General  Edwin Sifuna over alleged gross misconduct.

In a show cause letter by its chairperson Gladys Wanga, the party wants Sifuna to respond to six charges of gross misconduct by Wednesday, April 8, 2026, after which a hearing will take place on Friday April 10.

Wanga says that the party resolved to remove him from his post in a February 11, 2026, National Executive Meeting (NEC) held in the coastal region on account of gross misconduct.

In the April 2, letter she further says that the party is writing to him to give him a chance to be accorded a full fair and impartial opportunity to respond and defend himself.

“This process is anchored in the principles of natural justice, including the right to be heard (audi alteram partem) and the requirement for procedural fairness, and is therefore not self-executing, but constitutes the commencement of a constitutionally compliant disciplinary process,” says Wanga.

The ODM party accuses  Sifuna of contradicting the party position citing an interview on Citizen TV on July 22, 2025, where he declared a Memorandum of Understanding signed between ODM and the ruling United Democratic Alliance party was dead.

It is alleged that Sifuna made further statements in the interview that are inconsistent with the party resolutions undermining ODM’s collective position and authority.

In the second charge, the Nairobi Senator is accused of persistent public contradictions to ODM resolutions, citing participating in meetings and him conveying party positions particularly on October 16 and 27, 2025 and November 13, 2025, where he later went ahead to issue contradictory public statements.

In the third charge, the party accuses Sifuna of advancing a  position inconsistent with its position when he appeared in an interview on Citizen TV on February 3, 2026, which Wanga says aggravated confusion within the party and its membership.

In the fourth charge that Sifuna faces is of creating a parallel and unsanctioned political initiative under the “Linda Mwananchi Initiative” banner and engaging in external political actors which is inconsistent with sanctioned party programmes and undermines its strength, unity and cohesion.

In the fifth charge, the party accuses Sifuna of failing without reasonable cause to attend critical party meetings including Central Committee Meeting on January 12, 2026, and NEC meetings held on February 11 and March 4, 2026.

The sixth charge is Sifuna conducting himself in a manner that is prejudicial to the party’s interests, discipline, cohesion and public standing.

“The foregoing acts, whether taken individually or collectively, constitute gross misconduct within the meaning of the Party Constitution and warrant the invocation of disciplinary measures, including removal from office,” reads the letter by Wanga.

Wanga said that if Sifuna fails to respond within the stipulated timelines then ODM shall determine the matter in accordance with its constitution and take action as it deems appropriate.
