CORD promises more irrigation schemes to curb food insecurity

By VPPS

KENYA: The Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) has pledged its government will establish more irrigation schemes to guarantee food security.

The team took its campaigns to Tana River County where Vice-President Kalonzo Musyoka said a CORD government would expand Bura and Hola irrigations schemes.

He said that more irrigation schemes in other parts of the country would also be established to end hunger.  Mr Kalonzo said that it was only through the initiation of irrigation schemes that residents in arid areas could engage in serious farming to uplift their living standards.

“We will ensure food shortages witnessed in some parts of the country become a thing of the past through initiation of irrigation schemes in arid and semi arid lands,” said Musyoka.

The Vice-President who was accompanied by former Bura MP Nassir Nuh and aspirant for gubernatorial seat ambassador Hussein Dado said CORD would ensure more irrigation schemes, boreholes and dams were constructed to provide water for farming and for domestic use.

“We are going to expand Bura irrigation project to ensure there is food security in this region if Kenyans give us the opportunity to lead,” said the VP.

Addressing a rally at Bura grounds, Kalonzo said the Government has put in place proper security mechanisms to ensure law and order is restored.

He commended elders from Pokomo, Ardei and Orma clans for working together for the sake of peace and regional stability.

He appealed to Kenyans to vote for CORD to realise meaningful socio-economic transformation and true change that they have been yearning for.

He said CORD would ensure full implementation of the Constitution.  Kalonzo reiterated the alliance’s commitment to strengthen ensuring free primary and secondary education.
