Police scrutinise cartridges at scene of MCA murder in probe

By JAMES OMORO

Homabay, Kenya: Police are looking at bullet cartridges recovered from the crime scene as investigations into the murder of a Homa Bay County Assembly member continue.

Homa Bay County Police Commander Gabriel Musau and the County’s CID Officer Francis Longochila said they are also going to focus on the gun that was used to kill Kibiri Ward Representative Boaz Odhiambo Ondiek.

Addressing the Press in his office yesterday, Musau said they had taken the cartridges to experts in Nairobi for analysis.

EXPRESSED OPTIMISM

The police boss expressed optimism that scrutiny of the cartridges was going to substantially aid investigations. “We collected the cartridges to present them to our experts in Nairobi. Scrutinising the cartridges will help tell what type of gun was used and whether it had been used before,” Musau said. He added that if the findings reveal that the gun had been used elsewhere, it will also indicate if it is licensed and in whose name hence lead to arrest.

“We have not arrested anybody yet because there is no evidence so far but we have got some leads we are following to enable us catch the culprits,” Longochila said.

Ondiek, 27, suffered two bullets shot to the left side of his chest and right hand.
