Kenya Airways Cargo will open a new state-of-the-art centre to handle express shipment in the fast growing e-commerce industry.

The express centre targets major courier and e-commerce players globally and is aimed at improving the national carrier's cargo revenue as part of "Operation Pride" - the airline's turnaround strategy.

The centre will be a one-stop shop for airlines and freight forwarders dealing in e-commerce logistics, electronic customs clearance and cargo handling services, mail handling and airport ground handling services.

"Our business partners will benefit from express service, meaning reduced lead time from acceptance to delivery as well as positioning JKIA airport as the preferred transit hub to and from Africa," said the airline's Express Courier Manager Daniel Salaton.

The project is expected to increase KQ's cargo revenue by more than Sh200 million annually from next year. The centre will commence operations on February 1.
