Explainer: How new revenue sharing formula hurts poverty-stricken counties

When the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) unveiled a report that showed the wealth of different counties, Jane Kiringai, the chairperson of the Commission on Revenue Allocation (CRA) welcomed it, saying it would demystify a lot of things.

“We know that, for the first time, Nairobi does not contribute 60 per cent of GDP (gross domestic product),” Kiringai said.
