NTSA to automate operations in new move for service delivery

The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) is working to fully automate their services.

The agency has been upgrading its systems since July 3 in efforts to beat any form of attacks ahead of the planned automation.

The last upgrade took place Friday and Saturday, which resulted to unavailability of services.

NTSA Chairperson Agnes Odhiambo and Director-General George Njao told Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i they are set for the automation. They said they have put in place various measures to ensure their agency achieves its goals.

“We also discussed how to strengthen the legal framework to weed out criminals in the transport sector,” said Matiang’i.

This is part of efforts to digitise operations by the government to enhance service delivery. NTSA has been on the receiving end for poor delivery of services.

Kenya has long been grappling with inefficiencies in government service delivery, characterised by resource constraints, bureaucratic processes and lack of accountability.

In response, the government launched an integrated service model for person-to-government and business-to-government payments in July 2014.

At the county level, residents and businesses can pay for council parking, rental properties, business permits, land rates and construction permits.

At the national level, citizens, foreigners, visitors and local business owners can apply and pay for 41 services from various public sector departments, including immigration, civil and business registration, through the e-Citizen online platform.

Streamline processes

These new digital services aim to streamline complex processes, saving the public time and also save the government money.

Meanwhile, Insurance Regulatory Authority (IRA) has entered into a partnership with NTSA to collaboratively realise the parties’ statutory mandates, which includes regulation, supervision, compliance and enforcement.

The MoU provides an opportunity for the two parties to create road safety awareness through collaborative efforts to conduct joint road safety sensitisation and education campaigns in order to reduce road accidents. This will help lower fatalities and insurance claims.
