Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko said the directive is to enable the city to attract more investors and sustain its status as the commercial hub of East and Central Africa.

“To improve on the aesthetics and beauty of our city, it is hereby notified that all property owners in the Nairobi City County CBD that they should clean/repaint/redecorate their buildings as required by law public health and county by-laws within 14 days,” said Leboo Ole Morintat from the governor’s office.

“Upon the expiry from the date of this notice, necessary legal measures will be instituted to ensure the same is complied with.”

According to the directive, Central Business District covers the properties within Uhuru Highway, Nairobi River and Ring Road Pumwani and Haile Salassie Avenue.

Nairobi City Council also has given blanket approval to the property owners to improve plot frontages that is the area between the plot boundary and the road Kerb.

In 2017, Nairobi was ranked position ten among the top 20 African cities in terms of economic activity, consumer size and connectivity.
