County to spend Sh3.8b on projects

The County Government has set aside Sh3.8 billion to be spent on development projects in the first five months of 2019.

According to Governor Sospeter Ojaamong, the money will be used to complete stalled projects before new ones begin next year.

Mr Ojaamong has formed a team comprised of local professionals, which will oversee the projects' implementation.

“I am convinced that this team is going to ensure contractors do exactly what is required of them and complete their work on time,” said Ojaamong while revealing his plans yesterday.

However, ward representatives who were breaking for the holiday season were concerned that little had been done in terms of development since the elections.

The MCAs tasked the Leader of Majority to keep in touch with the executive so that projects in their wards could be implemented.

In response, Ojaamong urged the MCAs to pass Bills that strengthen revenue collection structures in the county.

He said there were no laws that give the executive powers to collect land rates.

“Laws to empower revenue collection must be passed," said Ojaamong.
