Dairy farmers in five counties will benefit from a new initiative by Barclays Bank.
The campaign driven by the bank’s agribusiness unit aims to support the milk processing value chain in Kisii, Nyamira, Narok, Bomet and Kericho counties.
The bank said yesterday it would provide innovative financial solutions throughout the value chain of the region’s dairy sector to boost milk production in the country, which has dropped by almost 50 per cent.
Barclays Bank will partner with Highland Creamers and Food Ltd based in Simbauti in Borabu sub-county that has an initial capacity to process a minimum of 200,000 litres of milk daily.
Barclays Bank’s Simon Kinuthi said the five counties had a huge business base that remains untapped.
“Subsistence farmers can achieve maximum profits through a well-coordinated value chain,” said Mr Kinuthi.
