Kenneth Matiba hospital to be moved to a new site

The county is expected to save Sh14.1 million annually in rent when it moves a hospital to its own premises.

The Kenneth Matiba Eye and Dental Hospital will be moved to the Kimorori Primary School grounds.

Governor Mwangi wa Iria yesterday said the hospital, which has operated at the rented premise for two years, will be moved as soon as the school leaves.

The relocation of the school started 10 years ago after the Government allocated money for the construction of new buildings.

The relocation of the hospital was recommended by the Maragua District Development Committee.

The hospital was opened in September 2015 and the lease agreement signed on August 1, 2014 between the owner of the land and the Murang'a county government.

The team recommended that a court, a lands registry, and the divisional police headquarters be constructed on the land so that area residents do not have to travel to Murang'a and Kigumo for services.

Speaking at Kenol market when he commissioned a borehole, wa Iria said money had been set aside for the construction of the hospital.

"We will build our own hospital and leave the rental premises to continue helping those in need of specialised care," he said.
