Athletics champion Samuel Kamau Wanjiru's mother has stopped burial plans for the fallen icon.

Ms Hannah Wanjiru took issue with the police, saying they should explain the origin of bloodstains she alleged were found in the athlete’s bedroom after his death.

"We cannot just bury my son without knowing what transpired before he died. That is why we are working with the police to know the progress of their investigation. This is an issue that cannot be taken lightly," she added.

She said the family met and opted to halt the plans until the cause of Wanjiru’s death was known. The athlete’s mother added: "It does not matter how long it takes but we have decided no burial would take place until we know the cause of his death."

Opted to wait

Speaking to the Press at her home Wednesday, Hannah said she had reason to believe her son was murdered, and that was why the family had decided to wait.

"We want to be told the truth on why there was blood in the bedroom and on the grills at the balcony. Why is there no explanation from the relevant authorities?" she asked.

The mother, however, said the police should be let to conduct their investigation without interference.

This came as the local police called experts from Nairobi to help retrieve CCTV recordings of the fateful night.

Nyandarua OCPD Jaspher Ombati said this would be the only way they could get useful information.

In another incident, a woman claiming to be a prophet stormed Wanjiru’s mother’s home with a message that her son was murdered.

The woman identified as Miriam claimed she had been sent by God to tell the athlete’s mother the son had only one wife and the rest had been sent by the devil to destroy Wanjiru’s property.
