Police arrest 14 Somalis at border

Fourteen Somali nationals were on Monday arrested at Matisi along Malaba-Webuye road for entering the country without valid documents.

Among them were five women and seven children in a 14-seater matatu destined for Nairobi.

The arrest comes only a week after two Pakistanis aged 40 and 43 years were arrested at the Kenya-Uganda border point, at Among’ura, for entering the country illegally.

Speaking to the Press, Webuye Police boss David Muthuri said the Somalis will be arraigned in court to face charges of being in the country illegally. They are being held in Webuye Police Station.

The latest development comes few days after the Upper Western PC Rashid Mohamed directed all the DCs along the porous border to be vigilant.

Teso police boss Alphas Korir said he has intensified patrols along the border to curb illegal entries. This follows a recent incident where a terror suspect, Hashi Hussein Farah, disappeared from police custody along the Kenya Uganda border.

Farah, who holds an Australian passport, is alleged to have links with the al- Shabaab in Somalia and Al-Qaeda.

Three police officers have since been suspended, and two businessmen, who had visited the suspect, charged with helping him escape.
