Lobby denies links with Nairobi NGO

The Muslims for Human Rights (Muhuri), an organisation based in Mombasa, has delinked itself from reports of a similar one in Nairobi.

Muhuri Chief Executive Officer Khalid Hussein said the organisation has no links with any related institutions in Nairobi.

"We wish to make it clear that neither does Al-Amin Kimathi nor Farouk Machanja work for or are associated with Muhuri in anyway," Mr Hussein said.

He said Muhuri does not have offices in Nairobi and anyone purporting to speak for the NGO there should be treated with contempt and could face legal action.

"Continued linking of our organisation with certain individuals has caused distress among our staff, directors, networks and partners locally and internationally," he said.

Hussein said Muhuri members were disturbed by the continued misuse of the organisation’s name by other groups and the media.

He said in the past few days, there have been statements in the media connecting the organisation to individuals and incidences that are in no way associated or linked to it.
