Leaders in Coast Province have raised concerns over delays in the release of funds to assist victims of the Faza fire tragedy in Lamu.

Nominated MP Shakila Abdalla asked the fund’s management committee to come up with a work plan to provide housing to victims living in make shift structures.

She demanded to know when the funds would be used for reconstruction.

"They should give us the time frame as to when they will start reconstruction, "said Abdalla.

She said disaster was looming should the El-Nino rains begin before reconstruction of damaged houses.

"Roofs of close to 200 houses were burnt down. If they will not be rehabilitated, disaster is likely to face Faza Island," she said.

Abdalla called upon the Faza Fire Committee to visit victims to appreciate the severity of the problem.

The Government raised Sh64 million towards the resettlement of the victims.
