The Permanent Presidential Music Commission (PPMC) has rolled out a nationwide youth dance and music talent development programme.

The commission under the Ministry of Sports, Culture and Arts is going round the counties using music and performing arts to empower young people; hoping to create opportunities for them in the music industry.

Speaking at the Mombasa Beach Hotel where over 100 youths drawn from different counties are attending a boot camp to sharpen their skills in all aspects of music and dance, the commission's director, Donald Otoyo, said they would use the Sh100 million given by President Uhuru Kenyatta to reach out to as many youths as possible.

"The commission is using music to help out-of-school youths find alternatives to crime, gangs and drug and substance abuse," he said.

The event is the 9th edition of the National Youth Talent Development Programme in Music and Dance and is also aimed at promoting peace and cohesion through music and dance .

"We are seeking to identify, nurture and develop and promote music and dance talents in the country under the auspices of 'promoting peace and cohesion'," he added.

The training programme conducted by some of Kenya's finest music and dance experts is geared towards the development of proficiency skills in among others instrument and voice labs, music appreciation, music performance, song writing, music business, life skills, networking and branding.
