Lady Captain Prize meet ends in Machako as Mukuria carries the day

[Mose Sammy, Standard] After a dangerous fall on the eve of her Lady Captain's prize, Felistus Mativo hosted 148 golfers for an award-winning tournament at the nine-hole Machakos Golf Club layout over the weekend. Despite her injury and being in a plaster cast, she attended the presentation gala on Friday and returned on Saturday to welcome guests from across the country for the well-organized tournament. Thanks to the pristine condition of the course, which played short due to the rainy conditions, some golfers in the afternoon draw were unable to complete their back nine after the clouds opened up at around 5:50 pm. In the end, Boniface Mukuria was honored as the Overall winner scoring 42 stableford points playing off handicap 17. In his speech, Mukuria mentioned, "I had invited a three-ball to join me for today's tournament, unfortunately, they were injured along the way and they left early." Simon Kimatu, playing off handicap 24, chalked 39 stableford points to claim the Men winner prize. Daniel Salaton, Anthony Gitu, and John Kitaka were placed second, third and fourth among the men, all with scores of 38, 38 and 37 stableford points, respectively. Among the ladies, Nancy Kariuki excelled, becoming the Lady winner with 40 stableford points, followed by Agnes Musyoki with a score of 38 stableford points, and third placed Ruth Mbeti, who managed 33 stableford points. Leading the Guest prize onslaught was Njeri Kamau, playing off handicap 20 with a score of 34 stableford points. Desmond Mukavi, secured the Guest winner second prize with a score of 33 stableford points. In the Subsidiary Men category, Paul Munene stood out with 36 stableford points, while Susan Mwende led the ladies with 39 stableford points. She was followed by Jemima Samuel, who inked 38 stableford points. The First Nine prize went to Emmanuel Kieti with 20 Stableford points, while Bruce Isika bagged the Second Nine prize with 22 Stableford points. The commercials saw Larry Asego compress his tee shot to win the Longest Men title on the par-five, 18th hole. Siphra Nyogesa won the Longest Drive Lady's prize. Ken Munyi won the Nearest to Pin prize on the tough playing par-three, 17th hole. "I am overwhelmed by the touching messages and the turnout for my final tournament, and I promise to be available to serve whenever called upon once I recover from this injury," Mativo said, accompanied by her signature laughter.
