A Dutch national has been sentenced to 10 years in prison after a Nairobi court found him guilty of exposing three minors to pornographic content in Uasin Gishu County.

Int Veld, also known as Teacher Jan Mzungu, was convicted on 10 charges, including exposing minors aged between seven and 17 to explicit images and videos on WhatsApp.

His offenses included committing an indecent act, sexual communication, and child pornography.

In addition to his prison sentence, Veld was ordered by Milimani Magistrate Joyce Macharia to pay Sh1 million in compensation to each of the minors for the psychological trauma caused.

Macharia further ruled that the 74-year-old foreigner would be deported to the Netherlands upon completing his sentence.

In her ruling, Macharia emphasized the gravity of the offenses, stating that the sentence was imposed without the option of a fine.

The court convicted Veld after the prosecution proved, beyond reasonable doubt, that he had exposed the minors to obscene content, causing significant distress.

During the trial, digital forensic experts presented evidence, including explicit WhatsApp conversations between Veld and a 17-year-old boy, where the defendant encouraged the minor to engage in sexual activities.

The prosecution also presented graphic images and videos recovered from Veld’s phone, showing child sexual abuse.

The crimes occurred between April 2022 and October 2023 in Turbo, Uasin Gishu County. The charge sheet detailed one count where Veld indecently assaulted a 16-year-old minor.

He was also convicted of intentionally communicating with a minor on WhatsApp to encourage sexual discussions.

The prosecution said on two separate occasions, Veld received obscene images from minors aged 7 and 10 through his WhatsApp account.
