All set for Western Circuit Ladies Open

Lady golfers continue to sharpen their golf sticks ahead of the 2023 Western Circuit Ladies Open Golf tournament set for Kericho, Kisii, Nyanza and Kakamega from Wednesday.

Kenya Ladies Golf Union (KLGU) chairman Lydia Obonyo said the four-day tournament is one of their major events in the union’s calendar this season.

The tournament, expected to attract over 180 lady golfers from each event, will start on Wednesday at the Kericho Golf Club.

Club Lady Captain Lorna Kipngok said they are happy and privileged to host the tournament.

“We are ready with all preparation set and lots of fun expected around the course and we thank KLGU for choosing us to be the host,” said Kipngok.

After the Kericho leg, the tournament will move to the 9-hole Kisii Sports Golf Club Course on Friday. This will be the first ever KLGU event at the club.

Kisii Sports Club Lady Captain Sophie Ongalo said they expect over 100 lady golfers from across the country to attend the inaugural tournament.

Ongalo said the competition will be very competitive as it will be a continuation of Western Circuit which will lead to a Golfer of the year (GOTY) event in Kakamega.

“This is an attractive Club bringing in many local and foreign golfers and by participating in this event, the golfers will appreciate the beautiful scenery of Kisii County, the amazing soapstone artifacts as well as explore business opportunities within the County which in turn would generate revenue for the County. Lady golfers will also enjoy our green lawn and the hilly terrain as well as the sumptuous meal of Matoke,” said Ongalo.

The third round of the tourney will move to Nyanza Golf Club Course on Saturday where the Club Lady Captain Cornilla Obare also confirmed that all has been set for the players to enjoy the game.

The Ladies wind up the fourth round in a Golfer of the year (GOTY) at the Kakamega Golf Club on Sunday.

Club Lady Captain Dr. Scarlet Muhadia confirmed they are set, well prepared and said the dress code of the day shall be Mustard, Yellow and Black.

Meanwhile Kenya has confirmed sending a team to participate in this year’s East and Central All Africa Challenge Trophy (EACAACT) set to tee off from 30th October to 3rd November at Kigali Golf Resort and Villas in Rwanda.

Kenya Ladies Golf Union (KLGU) who are the main sponsors of the team and organizer said they have already selected four lady golfers to represent the Country in the Regional tournament.

The final selected Kenya Team to Rwanda lady golfers are Ashley Awour, Margaret Njoki, Diana Mbuba and Bianca Ngecu.

KLGU Chairman Lydia Obonyo said the team has been training well, ready for the event and will be leaving for Rwanda over the weekend.

Countries participating are Kenya, Burundi, Tanzania, Mauritius, Zambia, Uganda and hosts Rwanda.
