A one-year-old child was on Thursday burnt to death in Nyawita sub-location, Bondo sub-county after their house mysteriously caught fire.

According to the police report, the little boy was sleeping when his parents' house caught fire.

The child's mother was cooking behind the house and only discovered that the house was up in flames when she went around to pick onions in the house.

The mother tried to rush into the bedroom where the child was sleeping in an attempt to rescue him but the room was already engulfed in flames with the child inside.

This forced her to raise alarm before members of the public came and managed to put out the fire but the child had already burnt to death.

According to her, the fire is suspected to have been caused by a candle that she had lit and forgot it inside the bedroom where the child was in.

The police were called to the scene before they removed the little boy's remains to Bondo sub-county hospital mortuary to await postmortem as investigations begin into the fire incident.
