My beloved Jubilee government is too small-minded at times — Ahmednasir Abdullahi

Senior Counsel Ahmednasir Abdullahi on Friday hit out at the Jubilee government following a smear campaign against Chief Justice David Maraga.

This is after some defamatory banners aimed at the CJ were put up at various points in the city.

Ahmednasir insisted that the Judiciary is an equal arm of government, appearing to point an accusing finger at the Jubilee administration.

“My BELOVED JUBILEE govt at times is too "SMALL MINDED"...What is this cheap nonsense against the judiciary?

“Isn't the judiciary a co-equal arm of government?” he asked.

On Friday, the Judiciary asked the Inspector General of Police and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to investigate those behind the banners saying they were in bad taste.

The banners, which read “COMING SOON…Who Maraga is protecting” were seen at various places in Nairobi and the Judiciary has strongly condemned the act.

“The content of the banners intimated that this was the beginning of a ‘vicious fight’ targeting CJ David Maraga in particular and the Judiciary in general.

“While the Judiciary does not know the people behind these attacks, it is clear that the banners are a continuation of well-choreographed attacks on the Judiciary throughout this week, particularly on social media,” read the statement in part.

This comes just days after Maraga blamed President Uhuru Kenyatta for disregarding court orders, terming it a recipe for anarchy.

In his address, the CJ also voiced frustrations at how he has sought audience with President Kenyatta but to no avail.
