Mercedes convertible: How Sonko celebrated adopted son Gift Osinya on turning 19

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko’s adopted son, Moses Gift Osinya recently turned 19-years-old. Taking to social media to mark the special day, the governor celebrated Gift in a heartfelt message that left netizens feeling emotional.

In the post, Sonko reflected on the first days the boys joined their family and how difficult it was for them to fit in.

“Happy birthday Gift Osinya. Another year older and another reason to celebrate, as you turn 19 today, the seven years we have so far shared with you while growing up are like treasures to our family. I can remember your moment of tears during the first difficult days you joined us as a family, but today I tell the rest of the world that the devil is a liar for God wiped your tears with abundant happiness and love.”

Sonko went on to thank Gift for being an amazing son and wished him more blessings in life.

“Gift, you are a gift of blessing as part of our family, may you be gifted with life's biggest joy. Thanks for being a wonderful son to our family. We are so fortunate to have a fantastic son like you. Happy birthday once more.”

Sonko’s wife Primrose Mbuvi also took to social media with a simple birthday message for Gift.

“Happy birthday my son!” she wrote.

Known for going an extra mile when celebrating birthdays, the family refused to be bound by the ongoing pandemic and threw an intimate yet lavish birthday party for Gift.

In a video posted by the governor, the family is seen cutting cake and dancing in circles. The 19-year-old boy might have been gifted a car for his birthday as his dad shared photos of him casually driving a Mercedes Benz convertible in their compound right after the celebrations.

**Gift and Satrine following the 2014 terror attack.**

Gift and his younger brother Satrine Osinya were adopted by the Mbuvi family in 2014 after surviving a terror attack that left their mother dead and a bullet lodged in Satrine’s head.

Recalling the fateful day, their biological father narrated how a last-minute work call forced him to abandon plans to accompany them to church.

“That Sunday, it so happened that I got a casual job somewhere nearby and so I did not accompany them to church. After about an hour, I got a call from one of my neighbours who asked me to confirm if my family who had gone to church because something had happened which was not very good,” he said.

His appeal to the government for medical and financial assistance caught Sonko’s attention and he swiftly moved to provide top class medical attention for Satrine and later adopted the brothers.

Satrine is now all grown and is in perfect health.
