Kenyan songstress Nadia Mukami is taking a break from social
media due to cyber-bullying.
Through an Instagram post on Tuesday, the pop-singer rising
star narrated her frustrations that led to the decision of taking a break from
social media.
“Am writing this with tears in my eyes and they are already
swollen coz of crying!” begins Nadia.
The singer explains the pressure the comes with being a
celebrity, saying that most public figures are not expected to show emotions.
Nadia said she will not bow down to such pressure but rather
reveal how she feels.
“There isn’t an insult I haven’t received!! All levels of explicit insults! This has been a month of one heartache after another, I swear I have broken down!” Nadia narrated.
She concludes by saying that despite the cyber-bullying, she
will still be back.
“I am always the strongest among my friends; they say God
doesn’t give you something you can’t handle; I wish he didn’t trust me this
much everytime!! Am taking a break, I will be back!!!!”
The singer’s
decision to quit social media comes weeks after Mulamwah, a Kenyan comedian,
took to social media and burnt his signature shirt as a sign of quitting social
media due to cyber-bullying.
“I am a comedian and I am used to banter but this was
affecting my family. The screenshots would get to my parents and my siblings
were affected too.
“I thought to myself that ditching comedy and living a quiet life away from the limelight would be beneficial to my family,” said Mulamwah.
