Workers yesterday found a coffin dumped inside the home compound of former Law Society of Kenya (LSK) president Ken Akide. Abandoned

Josiah Okumu, a farmhand, said he was preparing to go to the farm when he saw the small coffin near the fence wrapped with a white cloth.

Okumu then called his colleague Antony Wafula, who opened the coffin and found a letter inside.

“We have tried to gain access into this home, but we have not succeeded. But we have now gained access with Sh700,000,” read the letter in part.

“We now want the father or mother of the home. They should give us Sh1 million or leave the home,” it read further.

Workers baffled

The incident left the workers and villagers baffled.

“We do not know the intention of whoever placed the coffin in the compound,” said Wafula.

Akide was not home when the bizarre incident happened.

He told The Standard he had lived with his neighbours peacefully since he moved in five years ago.

The lawyer had just returned from Mauritius when his workers called him about the coffin.

“My workers have recorded the statement. The box was taken away. Let me wait and see what the police will find,” he said.

Neighbours said someone was trying to scare the former LSK boss.
