Church leaders demand fresh investigations into road crash that killed colleague

Two church leaders in Siaya have called for investigations into the death of a cleric and his two sons in a hit-and-run road accident two weeks ago.

Bishop Isaac Obure of Future Life Church, who is also the chairman of the Siaya Council of Church Elders, and Bishop Silas Owiti of Christ Glory Centre Ministries claimed cover-up on how the accident happened.

The accident that happened along Siaya-Nyadorera-Ruambwa road claimed the lives of the Reverend Joseph Ajuoga ,56, an assistant bishop of the Christ Glory Centre, and his two sons, Barrack Okeyo, 23, and Samuel Muli ,27.

Speaking to reporters in Siaya town yesterday, the two church leaders claimed that a section of the airbag that had bloodstains had been cut off.

Bishop Owiti questioned why nobody had been arrested yet the owner of the car and the driver are well known in Siaya town.

"I preach at a local FM station and just outside the station, I find very many Ugandan vehicles with bhang and illicit brews for sale. These vehicles have caused a lot of accidents. The government must act to save our people," he added.

Bishop Obure called on the police to step up investigations and bring the culprits to book.

But Siaya Police Sub-county Commander Justus Kucha denied claims that his officers had tampered with evidence, saying they had preserved the airbag for investigation.

Mr Kucha said a manhunt for the suspects had been launched.

"Their phones are off and they are not at their homes. We are, however, trailing them through our own means. We will arrest them soon," added Kucha.

According to the Siaya police boss Francis Kooli, the driver of the Ugandan registered vehicle, a Toyota Wish, escaped after the fatal accident.

Mr Kooli had said the speeding driver was ferrying Uganda waragi towards Siaya town.
