New entrant in KCSE exams upsets giants to emerge top

Nairobi Leadership Academy is the surprise star in this year's KCSE examinations.

The city-based school posted a mean score of 7.67 out of a possible 12 to emerge among top performers in the city.

Out of the 39 candidates who sat their KCSE exam at Nairobi Leadership Academy, a total of 27 candidates qualified to join the university.

The girls’ private boarding and day school posted a stellar performance with five students getting As.

Only 12 of its candidates attained below the university entry grade with eight scoring C grades and only four posting D grades.

Previous class

Last year, eight candidates of the 16 who sat the examinations qualified for university, with a total mean score of 6.58.

Tucked inside Nairobi’s South C estate, the school boasts of an education system that nurtures leadership and provision of a serene learning environment, offering pre-school, primary school, secondary school (8-4-4) and IGCSE curricula.

The 2019 KCSE candidates were the first Form One admissions in the school four years ago. The previous class joined the school in Form Two.

Dean of School Nancy Mbugua attributed the performance to sound academic policies, motivated staff and hard work of the girls, promising to even do better and fight for space with other academic giants.

Mbugua explained that although 12 students did not meet the cut off points to go to university, the students have valuable skills and competences to excel in innovation and other careers.

Projection

“This is our pioneer Form Four class and we can only say that sound academic policies, hardwork of the students and dedicated teachers has made us get good results. We had projected at least a B plain as our mean grade,” said Mbugua.

In the performance, Shukri Abdul Nassir scored a straight A, followed by Sharfa Musani, Caisha Abdirahaman, Samira Abdulle and Munira Abdirashid who scored A-. Two students scored B+, six students managed B plain, 11 candidates got B- while three students got C+ making a total of 27.

Mbugua said that they are looking for better performance in the coming years.
