The fracas erupted during a visit by Deputy President William Ruto at Giakanja Secondary School for a fundraiser.

Nyeri County Assembly Deputy Speaker Samuel Kariuki on Tuesday appeared before a Nyeri court where he was charged with assault and causing malicious damage to property.

Kariuku appeared before Nyeri Senior Resident Magistrate Mathias Okuche where he was charged with assaulting Daniel Wachira and damaging a private vehicle.

The Ruringu Ward MCA denied that on December 8, at Giakanja area, he assaulted Wachira causing bodily harm, tore his shirt and damaged a vehicle.

The fracas erupted during a visit by Deputy President William Ruto at Giakanja Secondary School for a fundraiser.

The MCA who surrendered at Nyeri Police Station before being presented in court denied the four charges and was released on Sh100,000 bond or Sh50,000 cash bail.

Lawyer Wahome Gikonyo who represented the MCA asked to be supplied with statements pending the mention of the matter on March 26 next year.
