Life after death? CS Mucheru on the spot for appointing dead man to board

ICT Cabinet Secretary Joe Mucheru was on Thursday put on the spot for re-appointing a dead man to the Kenya Film Classification Board.

Through a Gazette Notice, Mucheru reappointed Robert Kochalle (RIP) to continue serving in the KFCB board for another three years.

Kochalle passed away on May 29, 2018, at the Aga Khan University Hospital and was a member of the KFCB board.

CS Mucheru was put to task to explain the error, stirring a heated debate online.

A number of leaders reacted to the reappointment saying this was a new low for the Jubilee Government.

Nominated Senator Millicent Omanga weighed in on the matter terming it the ‘theatre of the absurd.’

Billow Kerrow: To suggest this gov't isn't dysfunctional will be an understatement!

Ahmednassir Abdullahi: JUBILEE.. just to show how fair and visionary it is has appointed a dead Kenya to be a board member of a state corporation...take it from me...at this rate MY BELOVED PARTY JUBILEE will rule Kenya for another 100 years.

Donald Kipkorir: …on that, I have nothing useful to add .... This may have been the game-changer for me to now make up my mind to finally join Jubilee ... I have to belong to a Party that resurrects the dead.

KFCB CEO Ezekiel Mutua, however, played down the matter saying it was being blown out of proportion yet it was not Mucheru’s fault.

“Small issue being blown out of proportion. The Board presented the notification to the Ministry for replacement and inadvertently he was reappointed.

“It was not CS Mucheru's mistake at all as the conversation started when KFCB was under the Ministry of Sports & Culture,” said Mutua.
