Infant's body found dumped in Bomet

The body of a one-month-old baby has been found on the banks of Nyangores River.

The baby is suspected to have been strangled and thrown away.

Residents at Chebungee village in Chepngaina sub-location of Bomet Central discovered the body.

Assistant chief Richard Kirui said the body still had a rope around the neck when it was found.

Condemning the incident, he cautioned teenagers against early pregnancy.

“This must be the act of a teenager trying to avoid the responsibility of motherhood after falling pregnant,” the assistant chief said.

Kirui said despite the suspect not being known, investigations will lift the lid and the culprit will be arrested.

“Everyone should help us in tracing the suspect."

Bomet Central Sub County police commander Musa Omari said the body was taken to Longisa morgue.

Omari asked the public to volunteer information that will lead to the arrest of suspects.

Cases of infants killed and dumped at birth have increased in the county.

The county government regularly buries dozens of infants born and dumped at Bomet cemetery.
