Gicharu rejects Governor Waititu's appointment

Rural Electrification and Renewable Energy Corporation chairman Simon Gicharu has rejected an appointment by Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu (pictured) to head a committee on pending bills.

In a gazette notice published on Friday, Waititu, through his finance executive, Francis Kigo listed Mr Gicharu to head the committee meant to help clear a backlog of bills.

Some of the pending bills date back to former governor William Kabogo's term.

However, Gicharu rejected the appointment yesterday saying he was not consulted.

“Basic courtesy should have dictated that they reach out to me before making such an important announcement. At least by doing so, they would have got my views on whether I have the knowledge, skills and time to discharge such a huge task,” he said

Gicharu, was listed alongside Joel Ngeru, Hannah Muchai, Edwin Njuguna and Eng Peter Njenga.

The term of the committee was 30 days upon gazettement on August 1, 2019.
