Police officer linked to robbery arrested at Kisumu slum

A police officer has been arrested after he allegedly robbed a mobile money service agent of Sh82,000 at Nyalenda in Kisumu on Friday.

The police constable, based at Kondele Police, is detained alongside an alleged accomplice. Another suspect is still at large.

They are said to have handcuffed the watchman guarding the shop before robing the owner in the 10pm incident.

Yesterday, county police commander Benson Maweu said they are investigating the matter. He said they are determined to end crime in the area.

“No one who is above the law and the officer will face the law if found culpable. We will not protect anyone who steals from citizens,” said Maweu.

The officer was found with a sword he allegedly used in the robbery.

Nyalenda residents protested over rising insecurity in the area.

They accused some of the local police officers of colluding with criminals to attack and rob them.

Informal settlements, including Nyalenda and Obunga slums, are the hardest hit by the wave of crime reported in the area.

This comes after several suspected hardcore criminals were arrested.

On the same Friday, a suspect linked to a series of various crimes, including land grabbing and extortion, was arrested at Milimani Estate.
