County government employees whose job titles have been phased out by technology will have to retrain for other jobs that are relevant to modern organisation, Governor Ndiritu Muriithi has said.

Mr Muriithi said his administration was phasing out the job titles owing to the increasing wage bill as well as digital transformation of government operations.

“We do have to manage the wage bill by modernising our public service. There are many jobs that existed in antiquity that are no longer relevant in today’s economy and hence, we will be phasing out those jobs that are irrelevant to the modern organisation,” said the governor.

Speaking in Nanyuki during Iftar dinner where he hosted Muslim community after breaking for their daily Ramadhan fast on Sunday, Muriithi noted that about 60 job titles have been made redundant yet employees are still hanging on to the positions.
