The gunman that shot a former Turkana county official was a policeman, it has emerged

Turkana central OCPD David Mborokwa have identified the suspect who shot Rtd major Daniel Ing'olan as Sergeant Gabriel Echwa Ewalan of Lokwamosing police station in Turkana east sub-county.

The police officer was killed by a relative of the retired soldier during the incident at Kanamkemer, Lodwar, on Monday night.

“Ewalan was in charge of the armory and had gone to the homestead of Daniel Ing’olan as a guest, upon arrival, the sergeant opened fire on the 51-year-old retired major and shot him in the right hand and left leg,” Mborokwa said.

The OCPD said a relative to the retired major managed to snatch a pistol from Ewalan and fatally shot him.

Ingolan, who is a former Turkana Public service and disaster management chief officer, was rushed to Lodwar county and referral hospital where he was admitted in relatively stable condition.

The body of the deceased was taken to the same medical facility’s morgue awaiting an autopsy.

The motive of the shooting has not yet been established and investigations are ongoing.

Major Ingolan was on Tuesday flown to Nairobi for further treatment.
