Busia to play host to Western Kenya Cultural Festival

Busia County will play host to a three-day Western Kenya Cultural Festival slated for April 2019.

The festival will take place between April12 to April 14 and will feature cultural leaders, including, Peter Nabongo Mumia II (Wanga Kingdom) and King of Teso Emorimor Papa Iteso among others.

According to organisers, the event would create investment opportunities for potential investors, promote tourism and bring communities together.

“Western Kenya has a lot to offer when it comes to investment and I guess the festival will play a major role in anchoring the message,” said Wilfred Maloba, the Dhamini Uzima Foundation Director.

The foundation will spearhead the festival in partnership with the Ministry of Sports and Culture.

Maloba said the festival would cost over Sh80million with over 100,000 people expected to attend.

“It will be an opportunity for the people of Western Kenya bloc to tap into the opportunities offered through generation of ideas fit for their future business and financial prospects,” he said.

Eastern Districts of Uganda will also participate in the festival to showcase different cultural practices from the region.

“It will also create a platform for us to learn from our Ugandan counterparts as they also learn from our rich culture,” he said.
