Three traders charged with obstructing inspection

Three city traders have been charged at Milimani Law Courts with obstructing an inspection which is against the law.

Anne Nyokabi, Nickson Kimani and Lucy Ikiao appeared before Senior Principal Magistrate Martha Mutuku and denied the charges.

The court heard that on September 27, 2018 at around 11:00 AM at Ideal Beatty Point Shop, Perida Business Centre Building along Dubois road Nairobi, they obstructed Anti Counterfeit Inspector Thomas Odek from seizing Makari De Suisse products.

The products are said to be from Ideal Beauty Shop.

Nyokabi and Kimani are said to have ordered Ikiao, the owner of the shop not to sign the inventory of seized goods number 002151 where seized goods had already being entered.

Ikiao was charged in another count with willfully failure to comply with the requirements properly made to her by an Inspector against the law.

The court heard that on similar dates and place, she refused to sign the inventory of seized goods after being requested to do so by Anti-Counterfeit Agency Inspector Odek.

Their Lawyer John Ogada, requested the court to release them on favorable bond terms on grounds that they had not received court sermons and were not aware that they were required to appear in court.

“My clients had been released on free bond by the police pending the arraignment in court and I pray that the court may consider the same,” said Ogada

Lawyer Ogada told the court that his clients are low income earner traders who operate around River Road, Nairobi.

At the same time, Ogada requested for witness statements and other documents that the prosecution will rely on.

The prosecution did not oppose their release on bail.

They were released on Sh30,000 bond or a cash bail of Sh10,000 each.
