Teen stabs to death neighbour, 35 over tin of maize

The police in Gilgil are holding a seventeen-year-old boy who stabbed to death his neighbour over a packet of maize.

The teenager stabbed the 35-year-old father of three on the chest in Kongasis as he was being taken to Elementaita Police Post.

Trouble started when the teenager stormed the victim’s home and broke into his maize store.

The owner heard the commotion and raised an alarm of a thief in his compound.

Peter Mwaura, a neighbour who responded to the distress call, said they found the minor with the packet.

It was while they were taking the minor to a police station that he overpowered them and stabbed his neighbour on the chest before fleeing.

“We had not noticed that he was armed with a knife. The owner of the farm who was pronounced dead on arrival at the local health centre,” he said.

Drinking spree

Meanwhile, a drinking spree by two close friends ended on a sour note after one of them stabbed the other over a woman in a local club in Kiambogo village, Gilgil.

The two casual labourers had been drinking together when an argument ensued over a barmaid who was serving them.

According to a resident, Amos Mwangi, the two brawled for a while before one stabbed his friend severally.

Gilgil OCPD Emmanuel Opuru confirmed the incidences saying the two suspects had been arrested and would be arraigned in court to face murder charges.

Opuru said in the first incident, the suspect overpowered the group escorting him to the police station and stabbed the complainant leading to his death.

“Our officers assisted by residents tracked him and he was arrested while in the second incident the suspect was arrested at the scene where he stabbed his friend,” he said.
