Man interrupts speeches, presents gift to President

President Uhuru Kenyatta greets a Kisumu man after the man handed him a gift with his portrait in a dummy Sh500 note.

Thousands of residents that had turned up for the Universal Health Care launch at the Mamboleo showground were treated to drama when a young man presented a rare gift to President Uhuru Kenyatta.

The man had prepared for the president a dummy Sh500 note with Uhuru’s portrait on it, and had been trying hard to have the President notice him from the crowd.

And when the wife of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga Ida took to the podium, the young man held his gift high and moved closer to the front as other youth cheered.

This caught the attention of the President who signaled the man to come to the podium.

“There is a young man here your Excellency. I think he has a present for you. Can we clap for him,” said Ida as the President stood up to receive him.

Ida said that the gift was an indication of how Kisumu people loved President Kenyatta, thanks to the March 9 handshake.

Dressed in a faded blue shirt, a black pair of trousers and sandals, the man met the President with a broad smile. President Uhuru took the gift and handed the young man to one of his aides.
