Living

It’s been a month since TV journalist Janet Mbugua welcomed her second baby. In her latest vlog the media personality and mother of two revealed why she had to be rushed back to hospital a few days after delivery. Turns out that she had gall stones which had to be flushed out as well as her gall bladder.

This meant she underwent 3 surgical procedures in three weeks. In a candid conversation, she admitted that in her quest to do everything after surgery, she ended up irritating her wound which caused it to bleed. She therefore share tips on how to take care of yourself post-delivery.

Get a doula

A doula is a specialist who gives support, help, and advice to women during pregnancy and after birth. Janet states that help is very important especially after you have delivered. You need someone to check on you and also help with the baby. A doula will be able to walk you through what’s happening to your body as a specialist.

Get a home nurse

According to the mother of two, if possible, getting a home nurse will help with the bathing and feeding of your new born. She says that these are nurses that are trained in baby care so they know pretty much everything when it comes to your new born baby. She

Rest

She assures women that getting help does not make them la lazy or bad mother. In fact, she says getting this help allows you rest and time to bond with your child. Most importantly, if you have had surgical procedure the help allows you to recuperate.

Listen to your body

Janet had her gallbladder removed weeks after she delivered. She therefore advises new mothers to always pay attention to their body and seek medical attention whenever need be. It is not okay to engage in the ‘wait and see’ play.

Eat well

For Janet, she has had to adjust her diet after her experience. She emphasizes on clean and healthy eating which also helps in boosting milk supply. In her case, she has opted to eat grilled food with little to no oil. Her menu consists of rice and Njahi, chicken, spinach, arrow roots, porridge and sweet potatoes. Her beverages include lots of water and soup.

Hygiene

Janet stresses on the importance of hygiene while handling new born babies. She emphasizes on regular washing your hands with soap and water. Also, ensure the same is maintained with visitors by having a sanitizer at hand or directing them to wash their hands before holding the baby.

For self-care, she suggests that you find something that makes you feel good. For her, applying moisturizers and olive oil on her face makes her feel better about herself.
