Authorities detain seven foreigners headed to Oman for jobs

Five Tanzanians and two Ugandans were arrested on Wednesday at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport while traveling to Oman for greener pastures.

The women were intercepted by police and immigration officials who told them there were no jobs for them in the gulf state.

A Kenyan who was behind their trafficking was arrested too. The Ugandans and Tanzanians are expected to be repatriated to their countries while the Kenyan is expected in court to face various charges. Police have intercepted more than 100 women from the neighbouring countries while traveling to the Middle East states for jobs in the past month in an operation.

Immigration officials say those traveling to Middle East countries for jobs need special clearance from the host nations.
