Marcus Rashford speaks out after red card for headbutting in Manchester United's win at Burnley

Marcus Rashford has apologised for his controversial red card in Manchester United's win over Burnley.

Rashford was given his marching orders after pushing his head into Burnley defender Phil Bardsley's following a late challenge on Sunday.

Bardsley reacted to the contact by stepping away, giving referee Jon Moss no option but to send the young England striker off.

Thankfully for Rashford, it did not have an impact on the result as United ran out 2-0 winners thanks to Romelu Lukaku's double.

Writing on Twitter, Rashford said: "Emotions got the better of me, I shouldn’t of reacted like that. Sorry to everyone at the club and all the fans."

Rashford's manager Jose Mourinho described the forward as "naive" following the game.

He told the BBC: "I don't know what happened. I would say it was naive. It was a kid and a very experienced man.

"Bardsley's been in the game for 20 years and Marcus is a naive boy."

Mourinho refused to blame Paul Pogba for the missd penalty during the game, despite the former Juventus midfielder coming under fire for his run-up.

"I never blame a player for missing penalties," Mourinho added. "I blame the ones who refuse to go up there. Paul's scored some good ones for us.

"I think it was a very, very good performance with a result which was short.

"They played very well as a team, and there were very good individual performances and we should score many more goals. The result shouldn't have been open until the last minute.

"There were lots of good performances but Fellaini was fundamental, together with Smalling and Lindelof. Luke Shaw had a good performance and there were many others, too.

"We lost so many chances and Joe Hart made important saves.

"I don't remember such a comfortable performance as we've showed in the last two matches."
