Bungoma County pays ECDE teachers Sh530m in arrears.

Governor Wycliffe Wangamati

The county government has released Sh530 million to clear Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) teachers’ salary arrears.

More than 2,000 teachers had protested against the county government’s failure to pay them promptly.

Governor Wycliffe Wangamati had recently said the teachers would receive their pay.

The governor inherited a workforce of 2,076 ECDE teachers employed on permanent and pensionable terms, but without a budget allocation to pay their salaries.

The teachers taught without pay for nine months. Mr Wangamati resorted on cutting budgetary allocations for other departments to pay the teachers
