Mombasa High Court now allows recruitment of KMA Director General

Mombasa Court has lifted orders halting the recruitment of Kenya Maritime Authority (KMA) Director General.

The High Court in Mombasa has lifted orders halting the recruitment of Kenya Maritime Authority (KMA) Director General.

The post has remained vacant for three years now.

On Friday, Justice Erick Ogola ruled that the recruitment, which kicked off on October 10, 2017, was above board and legal, and that the KMA board followed all procedures as prescribed by law.

Those who had been shortlisted for the position included KMA finance manager Cosmas Cherop and the maritime regulator’s head of commercial shipping John Omingo.

In January, Judge Ogola issued orders to halt the process after a human rights group filed a petition alleging it was irregular.
