Police boss Mutiso has asked public to volunteer information

One of the bodies was identified as that of Beatrice Wangari, the other was yet to be identified.

A woman and a girl were found dead in a Murang'a home. Their bodies, with ropes tied around their necks, were found by relatives at Githumu area, Kandara sub-county.

One of the bodies was identified as that of Beatrice Wangari, but as at last evening the other was yet to be identified. However, neighbours said it was that of Wangari's grandchild who had been visiting from Nairobi.

Neighbours interviewed said the two might have been killed by criminals who broke into the house in search of valuables. Peter Mwaura, a relative, said some items were missing from the house. Kandara police boss Gregory Mutiso said investigations had begun and asked the public to volunteer information.

Elsewhere in Mombasa a woman was gang raped and killed. Her body was on Tuesday found at a drinking den in Mikindani on the outskirts of Mombasa Island. The family of Roseline Zighe, 34, called for a thorough investigation.

"We want quick answers before we bury our beloved daughter who did not deserve such a cruel death," said Clement Aloyce, father to victim, who was a mother of three.

County Police commander Johnstone Ipara said they were investigating the incident.
