If you find yourself avoiding social events where you will be forced to give handshakes because of your sweaty hands, truth is you are not alone. According to medical journals, this common problem referred to as palmar hyperhidrosis has the most significant negative impact on patients' lives of any dermatologic condition.

‘Palmar’ translates to hands and ‘hyperhidrosis’ means too much moisture. It describes a condition in which your hands are producing excess sweat. Triggered by anxiety, stress, panic attacks and other emotions, it may also be hereditary.

While it may be a normal process of your body to regulate temperature, it is advisable to seek medical attention to right off serious health problems such as low blood sugar, an overactive thyroid, a heart attack, nervous system disorders or menopause.

If it causes you emotional and psychological anguish hampering simple day to day activities such as writing on a book, oral medication and injections may offer a permanent solution. However, below are six ways you can stop sweaty palms with readily available ingredients.

Baby powder

Pick a trusted brand and sprinkle a generous amount into your hands and rub it evenly. Do this often and for convenience, carry a small baby powder in your bag.

Baking soda

Due to its alkalinity, baking soda is one of the most inexpensive remedies that makes sweat evaporate once it is absorbed. Used as a natural antiperspirant, it is an effective natural treatment. Put two table spoons of baking soda into a bowl of warm water and stir. Soak hands for 15 minutes then pat dry.

Sage

Rich in magnesium and vitamin B, sage prevents over activity of the sweat glands. Its astringent properties also aids in getting rid of excess skin oils and sweat.
