The death toll in the collapsed Kisii town building has risen to six, among them a primary school pupil.

The four-story building collapsed on Wednesday 11 October morning. 24 people have so far been rescued from the debris.

Officials from the Kenya Red Cross have put up a tent to help identify the deceased and those affected.

Director Kisii County Disaster Management Mr. Julius Tinega says they have completed almost 40 percent of the rescue mission. "We have been able to rescue several people who were trapped in the debris," says Tinega.

The building is located Kisii town's Mwembe estate, one of the densely populated estates in the area with a number of Kisii University students residing there.
